My Story

So how does someone decide they want to be officiant?

My officiating path comes from friendship. Friends who asked me to be their officiant for their wedding in the August of 2022.  For the past two decades, I have been a teacher, a speech coach, a concurrent public speaking instructor for Minnesota State University, Mankato, a keynote speaker for student celebrations, a wedding reader, and now an officiant. 

It was in preparation for my dear friends' wedding that I saw the joy in being the person who gets to bring them together in this moment. I also get to be the one to tell their story. I felt like I found my niche.  Officiating allows me to use many of my skills. As a teacher, I am used to giving people direction and leading the way.  As a writer, I am able to choose my words carefully to showcase the couple.  And as a speaker, I promise to prepare a ceremony that celebrates your love. 

One of the benefits of having an officiant that is not part of your friends and family is that I can just take the reigns.  I can give directions, consult with the couple, and communicate with all so your ceremony goes smoothly. Also, it takes the burden off friends and family to make sure they do not mess up the ceremony. As your officiant, I welcome the opportunity to help you celebrate your wedding! I will help with a rehearsal, run through all the important details of your wedding that you would like to see happen, and most importantly I will file your paperwork.  It is a special day. I would love to help make the ceremony personal and a memory for you.

Please note I only have a license in Minnesota. (I am open to other states, but have not filed.)  My credentials are from the Universal Life Church.
